Qila Mohammadi Nagar, Banglabazar, Lucknow
![]() |
The Qila Mohammadi Nagar at Banglabazar, Lucknow was renamed Qila Bijli Pasi by the BSP government under Chief Minister Mayawati. I have searched the internet but couldn't find any information on Maharaja Bijli Pasi or the fort. Who built it? No information is available. I first visited this place 40-odd years ago, many years before the government took charge of the site. The walls of the fort are just dried earth and the four corners must have had some sort of brick fortifications. * A brief history of Maharaja Bijli Pasi in Hindi |

The Chauri Chaura memorial

The memorial erected in memory of those killed in police firing at Chauri Chaura opposite the railway station |

The martyrs memorial from the overbridge |

The brief history seen here is at the martyrs memorial. It had to be photograph it two sections and unfortunately, the bottom half has gone above |

The Chauri Chaura police station with rifle slits |
![]() |
This plaque probably has the name of the politician who sanctioned the funds for the wall |
![]() |
The old memorial seen from the road probably never had an inner enclosure. |

Penknives
All pen knives in the past century didn't fold
Number 3 here is the well-known Swiss made Victorinox that is now available worldwide. Number 2 is a penknife whose blade
has reduced by at least an inch. It lay almost unused in a toolbox for several decades. On it was engraved Made in Germany and a goat engraved on it. I was familiar with the goat on the blade of pocket knives in the past but they were all locally made, in or around Lucknow.
Recently, I googled Goat brand pocket knives and was surprised to find a wide collection of old knives of the same brand of English make!
The knife at no. 1 is an original fixed blade pen knife of unknown vintage. They were used to trim reed dip pens
and this one came to me from an uncle.
