Dhananjay Ram, better know in the Martiniere as Douglas Ram seen here in good health. He died a few years ago in New Delhi where he held a senior position in the computer section of the Delhi Police. Received this pic from Clayton Roberts in his Martiniere Memories email series.

"This mess was created by non other than the principal Desmond Shaw, who leased out the tank on rent  to 'Tubby" Thapur for his proposed fish farm, but when the rains could not fill the tank, Mr. Tubby Thapur dug a canal connecting the lake to the Gomti and salvaged his stock of fish. These two gentlemen are both Martinians and have been responsible for this mess. Ever since the river has flowed into the lake and flooded the area Mr. Shaw had to build the bundh to save Constantia. This was done by Government funds and a public road runs on top of this monstrosity, which blocks the Lat and the beauty that we all enjoyed in our school days. Three cheers for Desmond Shaw and  three cheers for Tubby Thapur for destroying our heritage."

 

Tubby was my class fellow who I'd heard worked for the fishery department. His mother was Dolly Jones, the sister of Lennie and Buster Jones. Lennie was (is) in the UK and Buster settled in Bhopal.

John Hunt, Cornwallis House

From facebook A couple of months back, seeing a pic of John Hunt, I asked how many John Hunts are there but nobody answered. Maybe I should have asked: Is this the John Hunt, sprinter, rugby player and cricketer and I would have got an answer. He's looking really good!
